The
word "freegan" is a portmanteau
of "free" and "vegan".
Freeganism started in the mid 1990s, out
of the anti globalization and environmentalist
movements. The movement also has elements
of Diggers, an anarchist
street theater
group
based in Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco
in the 1960s, that gave away rescued food.
A Freegan is someone who seeks alternative means
of living. What ever level is comfortable for you is
what you live by. Some people recycle items such as
furniture, clothing and toys, others offer fruit from
their trees, vegetables from their gardens, flowers or
even dirt. Still others offer their help to other needing
assistance with traveling to doctors, medication picked up,
or house or pet
sitting. You can barter, gift,or
borrow.
Keep
it FREE
I
have been a member of freegan based groups for
about 5 years now. I own and maintain 3 groups currently.
In
today’s throw away society we have to do what
we can to recycle and
save this wonderful earth.
In
the past I tried my hand at dumpster diving , eve for
food
yes, you read right, for FOOD!. It was an experience. It
also opened my eyes to the enormous waste that grocery stores
take part in.
Take
a plunge and check these groups out below.
what do you have to loose?, they’re FREE!!!!
